Action Lab

“Action Lab: Pivoting to Sustainability” is an exploratory Platform, a space to understand, learn and implement sustainable action within business

The economic model we live in is collapsing, leading to unprecedented environmental and socio-economic problems. Business plays a big role and needs to re-think. But how can you rethink an old-as -ages model without a support ecosystem? And how can an ecosystem thrive without its key “resource”, the PEOPLE?

Pivoting to Sustainability

We have designed a people centric approach, moving from individual exchange and learning to community based activities.

During a 6 months project we bring together people in companies, academia, public institutions and investment bodies to share insights, experiences and knowledge in order to assess and build up the sustainability ecosystem of the city of Zurich.

This is not a one-time initiative, we are planning to use this model and create a repeatable Action Lab in 10+ European cities.

We are aware there is a lot happening in the sustainability space in Zurich area, but somehow the ecosystem is not aware of its members, the knowledge is polarized, the companies are yet unaware of the deep changes needed before the “reporting” phase and the specialized workforce is untrained or insufficiently trained.

Therefore, we want to be part of the solution and we are launching the Action Lab with the intention to kick start a transparent conversation and to create awareness in the field.

During the 6 months, we will collaborate with our Partners to:

Launch a sustainability Map for the Zurich Sustainability Ecosystem.

Curate a monthly highlights section, #fruitforthought, where we share the most relevant news, resources and initiatives (weekly on social media; sent by email as a monthly brief).

Organize a monthly meeting, where we invite sustainability experts to join a community of practice meant to speed up the process of business change.

Design a podcast series with bite-size knowledge, going through all the buzz words and buzz killers of sustainability. Call it a micro-course, call it a podcast, the scope of it is to demystify sustainability and make it chewable and understandable.

Organize a totally different Hackathon approach that will bring on board different companies facing specific sustainability challenges and ad-hoc teams to solve them.

Share the knowledge and organize under the same umbrella sessions, workshops, events.

Test innovative approaches, build communities and learn from each other.
